ATLANTA (October 3, 2017) | Sen. Blake Tillery (R – Vidalia) recently visited students from J.D. Dickerson Primary Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) in Vidalia to celebrate Georgia Pre-K week. Students from J.D. Dickerson were entertained by Sen. Tillery’s reading of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed reading with the students at my former elementary school, J.D. Dickerson Primary, yesterday,” said Sen. Tillery. “Their young, energetic smiles put perspective on all we’re fighting for in Atlanta. Just being with them made my day better. The teachers and staff at J.D. Dickerson work hard to prepare our youth to be hard working and educated young men and women. Early learning and quality education certainly have a positive effect on our students and prepare them for the next stage of their lives. It was also great to see two of my former teachers still making a difference in the lives of our youth. I am thankful we have such dedicated community members willing to mold and shape the next generation.”
Georgia’s Pre-K program started in 1992 and has educated over 1.4 million Georgians in 25 years. This week marks the 7th annual Georgia Pre-K week, a time that is set aside yearly to celebrate and raise awareness of Pre-K programs statewide. It is organized each year by Voices for Georgia’s Children, a policy and advocacy non-profit organization, and supported by more than 15 child-focused partner organizations. Leaders from across the state are encouraged to read to students, participate in classroom activities and see firsthand the impact of early learning.
